Or, skip to The meaning of eclipses in the houses
Lunation (or New Moon and Full Moon) charts have been used by Mundane Astrologers for many centuries. In later times, people began to compare them to their natal charts.
Generally, you’ll want to use the New Moon, or Conjunction, when you want to start something new or try to break some old patterns. That is the time of the month when you would attempt to start or do these kinds of things. The New Moon is the time of internalizing and looking within yourself.
The Full Moon, or Opposition, is the time when you would try to accomplish the things that were started on a New Moon. The Full Moon is when you look to external events or things get beyond your control.
Things to look at when comparing the Lunation charts to your own:
- Houses that the Sun and Moon are transiting in your natal chart.
- What aspects do the Sun and Moon make to your natal planets? Are the majority of those aspects easy or hard?
- Astrologers also look at the transits to the Lunation charts, particularly to the Moon.
Eclipses
An eclipse is a far more potent lunation. Look to the house the eclipse falls in your natal chart. The affairs of that house activate. Does the eclipse fall on a planet in your natal chart? That planet will also be activated. The sign of the eclipse plays a role in the likely events that the eclipse will trigger.
Many people fear eclipses because they might bring about a crisis of sorts that leads to a significant event or change. However, this event or change can be very positive.
Eclipses tie in with changing circumstances. However, we are usually the ones to precipitate or to attract changes because our “inner guides” know that we need it. Human beings are progressive by nature. Although we might stay in situations that make us miserable for longer than we should, deep down inside we know that change is necessary for growth.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Several eclipses occur every year. They happen in one particular sign and its opposite sign several times in a set spanning about two years approximately every nine years.
For example, eclipses occurred along the Taurus-Scorpio axis from 2003-2004, then 2012-2014, and then from 2021-2023. Further, eclipses happened along the Aries-Libra axis from 2004-2006, then 2013-2016, and then from 2023-2025. Although they are notable and important in astrology, the media can make a fuss of these fairly regular occurrences, leaving some in a panic or expecting a lot more from the eclipses than they warrant.
It’s important to note that eclipses alone are not responsible for dire events in people’s lives. However, they’re great for identifying current and upcoming themes in the world and our lives.

Astrological Significance of the Lunar Eclipse in Taurus
About the Lunar Eclipse on October 28, 2023
As noted above, a Lunar Eclipse is an incredibly potent lunation, in this case, a powerful Full Moon.
Lunar Eclipses are relationship-oriented. The “crisis” these eclipses tend to elicit is a crisis of lack–a time when we quite suddenly realize or recognize a great need or want. The impact of the crisis can act to sever a relationship–it’s possible–but it can also bring two people together with a sudden awareness of a great need for each other.
Although Lunar Eclipses are more relationship-oriented than Solar Eclipses, they are not always about relationships between two people. They can trigger awareness of what we need or lack in other areas of our lives. For example, it can be about our relationship to our work, health, and bodies.
This is a time when matters come to light–things that have been brewing under the surface.
When a Full Moon occurs, we can burst forth with proclamations and outpours. These seem fresh and new simply because they are not yet rationalized. However, these things are usually about matters we’ve buried or kept at bay. A Lunar Eclipse is a more potent Full Moon, and its effects tend to last longer — approximately six months.
The Lunar Eclipse on October 28th, 2023, occurs when the Moon is at 5-6 degrees of Taurus, opposing the Sun at 5-6 degrees Scorpio, and is a Partial Lunar Eclipse.
Lunar Eclipses are about relationships and polarities. With the Taurus-Scorpio axis involved, this Lunar Eclipse presses us to look more closely at our needs, lacks, and wants concerning the balance between Taurus-ruled and Scorpio-ruled areas of life.
The contrast between earthy, practical, peace-loving Taurus and emotional, transformative, crisis-oriented Scorpio comes into full bloom. The Moon in Taurus wants us to find emotional fulfillment through life’s simple, tangible things. On the other hand, the Scorpio Sun draws our attention to complexities, intangibles, and mysteries.
The Full Moon illuminates this conflict between form (Taurus) and transformation (Scorpio) and between collecting (Taurus) and sharing (Scorpio). Neglecting either end of the axis will surely backfire on us. Ideally, we’re to find a balance between the two energies, which this Lunar Eclipse invites us (or pushes us) to do.
In essence, this eclipse is about awakening to the need to enjoy the fruits of our labors and connect with our desire to care for ourselves and our needs.
We take an urgent interest in the physical world and our sensual needs and desires at this time. While we should watch for stubbornness, some self-interest is healthy and necessary.
We could recognize where we’ve depended on others or shared so much that we’ve neglected our own needs and self-esteem. We learn, through circumstances, that we need to get in touch with our fundamental needs, not only others’, for a relationship to be whole. Some of these realizations or epiphanies may seem difficult at first. However, they are also necessary to clear the way towards a better life with less guilt.
But first, the eclipse is obscuring our vision, and it’s important to let our intuition kick in before taking action. A Full Moon always magnifies, temporarily skewing our judgment. It’s a powerful exercise, but we should engage in some wait-and-see before drawing final conclusions.
Eclipse #7 in a Taurus-Scorpio set of 7
This Lunar Eclipse is the seventh eclipse and the fifth Lunar Eclipse in a set of eclipses that occur along the Taurus-Scorpio axis (the first eclipse in this sign set happened in November 2021). It’s been a Lunar Eclipse-heavy set.
It’s important to consider the context of the entire eclipse set: this one stirs the need to balance our lives between collecting and sharing, the simple and complicated, tangibles and emotional complexities. Emotions, feelings, and revelations are pivotal, even if slow to emerge–they move things along.
As the final in the sign set, we’re getting the final push or nudge that will ultimately launch us into action. Ideally, we’re ready to balance our lives more fully in the areas of our charts affected and impacted by this eclipse sign set.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 5 degrees and 9 minutes of Taurus, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 0 to 10 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.
The Lunar Eclipse Chart
This partial Lunar Eclipse is a busy one, configured with Mercury and Mars on the Sun side of the Sun-Moon opposition, and with Jupiter on the Moon side. There can be inflated feelings, and we can wrestle with strong urges. As such, it’s wise to sit with our revelations for a bit before taking action.
Occurring not long after the time of a Superior Conjunction of the Sun and Mercury, an epiphany, illumination of a matter, or a clearing of the air is even more likely and significant. We are sharp, communicative, and open at this time, and what we say or write now has a strong impact, for better or worse! An idea or plan can come to full bloom.
Consider that, with Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter in hard aspect, there can be exaggeration now, or news and revelations coming in can be blown up and dramatic but not discountable since they come from real feelings. This eclipse also harmonizes with Saturn, suggesting a strong ability to turn things around and make them work for us, particularly on practical levels.
This Full Moon eclipse is ripe with possibilities and learning experiences. Intimate relationship matters, such as personal comfort levels, values, and sexuality, can figure prominently. Money and personal finances, our ability to take care of our own needs and support ourselves, and our relationship with our things can be strong themes now.
Something has been building inside of us, and now is the time when the energy of the cosmos fairly demands that we let it out. Over the coming months, we will discover what this means for us. For now, we can’t sit on our feelings. We need to express them in some way or connect with them.
A crisis of sorts (which can be a crisis of consciousness) or sudden awareness of a lack in our lives provides us with a golden opportunity to explore our emotional needs within the context of the house polarity where the eclipse occurs in our natal charts.
Relationships may be challenged, broken, or strengthened dramatically at this time. Our discovery is emotionally charged and dramatic–everything feels big and larger than life now. Epiphanies are likely as we become acutely aware of our lack. This understanding can propel us into affirmative action, although there can be some initial chaos or limbo.
Our Mission:
Full Moons and Lunar Eclipses bring issues in our lives to fulfillment. Our emotions heighten, and drama is often involved with the house, sign, and any contacted planets activated by the Full Moon.
Look to 5 degrees of Taurus/Scorpio in your chart (allow up to about a 5-degree orb when examining the planets and points the eclipse aspects). This Lunar Eclipse gives us a cosmic push to make needed changes in our lives. The areas of life activated by the eclipse may see dramatic turns, after which the path is clear to move forward.
Note that whatever happens at this time is nothing truly new. The issues have been brewing inside us, and emotions have been building. Something comes to light at the time of the Lunar Eclipse. If we get in touch with our emotions, we can discern what needs to change or what needs to go.
But we should also consider that as one area of our lives magnifies, we could have a blindspot to another.
Reactions to eclipses are highly individual–some of us can be irritable and don’t know exactly why. Others might be in a daze, seeing only what they want to see while their common sense or objectivity is temporarily “eclipsed.” Discoveries are exaggerated, so keep this in mind. Even so, this drama serves a purpose, and while we shouldn’t jump to act, we should pay attention to our feelings and discoveries–they’re telling us something important.
With the Moon full and bright in the sky, symbolic “illumination” occurs in our own lives. However, these new feelings and revelations are emotional ones, as there is a sense of emotions bursting forth into our consciousness. It’s time to express ourselves and to let things out of our systems. Of course, we should exercise some care while doing so, knowing that what is coming out of us is new and not particularly rational as yet.
We shouldn’t ignore the Sun’s role in this eclipse–its Scorpio position in our charts shows where we have focused our energies, sometimes to the detriment of the Taurus area of our charts, and now, we need to find a balance.
Our feelings count, and we’ll see and feel their power now, paving the road for new directions. However, this can be an impulsive and misguided time to act. It’s better to observe, take in, and process before jumping into action.
It’s also a time to work on clearing up past patterns that have held us back from personal fulfillment, particularly those centering around sharing, possessiveness, comfort, and self-esteem matters. We’ve been doing some work in these areas since November 2021, and our greater awareness of problems, especially lacks or flaws–and they’re significant–can ultimately help us make better, more balanced choices.
There can be inflated feelings, and we can wrestle with strong urges and blocks, so it’s wise to sit with our revelations for a bit before taking action. These new realizations are far from discountable–they’re significant. However, they’re bigger than life; ultimately, the goal is to find a balance.
This Lunar Eclipse can have a way of bringing dysfunctional areas of our lives to our attention. Emotions and realizations feel big. Plans can blossom.
Through events, circumstances, and epiphanies occurring after this eclipse, we learn that we need to get in touch with our needs for a stronger connection to our physical natures and needs. To feel fulfilled, we must acknowledge and embrace our need to take care of ourselves and feel grounded and strong as individuals. Boosting our income can be part of this, and so can more effectively managing other personal resources, including our personal possessions, valuables, assets, and talents.
We ultimately become aware of where we have been overdoing dependence on others, whether emotionally, physically, or materially, and where it’s come at the expense of our self-worth.
This is a time to open ourselves up to possibilities, but we should save finalizing plans for a later date.
Full Moons are always helpful for magnifying pre-existing problems so that we can intuit where to bring back balance. Our larger work should focus on reaching a good balance. Enlightenment gives us a golden opportunity to explore our emotional needs, ultimately leading to positive actions and decisions.
There can be a heightened awareness of flaws in our current systems and structures. This eclipse can also bring on an urgent or sudden need/desire to express ourselves verbally or through our actions. It can also prompt a strong compulsion to resolve a problem.
This eclipse serves as a final prompt, nudge, or push to make improvements in Taurus- and Scorpio-ruled areas of life in our charts, and feelings of discontent can magnify. It’s a time to resolve matters, strike a balance, take a lesson, and move on.
Putting Things into Context:
On October 28th, 2004, a Lunar Eclipse fell in Taurus at almost the same degree as the one occurring now. It might be helpful to think back to issues in your life, if relevant, around this time to get an idea of how this 2023 Lunar Eclipse affects you. Another, at a similar degree, occurred on October 28th, 1985, and October 29th, 1966.
You can also look back, in a general sense, to eclipse sets occurring along the same Taurus-Scorpio axis as the current one in effect from November 2021 to October 2023. This review can help give more information gleaned by looking to the past to understand the present and future themes:
We last had a set of Taurus-Scorpio eclipses from November 2012 to October 2014. Before that, a group occurred from November 2002 to April 2005, and another from November 1993 to October 1995. These are additional periods of your past, if applicable, that may have had similar themes to this current eclipse set. Of course, even if they occurred at similar degrees, the sky looked different than it does now, with planets presenting in various patterns and positions. While the issues will not be identical, specific themes can re-emerge.
It’s also important to consider that the North Node is closer to Taurus during this 2021-2023 Taurus-Scorpio eclipse set than it is to Scorpio. The last set where the North Node was in Taurus or close to Taurus was the eclipse set from November 2002 to April 2005.
There is undoubtedly a difference between eclipse sets where the North Node is closer to Taurus, as it is for this eclipse, and one where the North Node is closer to Scorpio.
Taurus-Scorpio Eclipse sets (upcoming, current, and some in recent history):
- May 2031 to November 2032
- November 2021 to October 2023
- November 2012 to October 2014
- November 2002 to April 2005
- November 1993 to October 1995
- May 1984 to April 1986
The following lists the set of eclipses falling along the Taurus-Scorpio axis in this set only (there were other eclipses between these since they overlap – a fuller chronological list of eclipses is at the end of this page):
- Partial LUNAR Eclipse November 19, 2021, at 3:57:17, at 27° Taurus 14′
- Partial SOLAR Eclipse April 30, 2022, at 16:27:54 at 10° Taurus 28′
- Total LUNAR Eclipse May 16, 2022, at 00:13:58 at 25° Scorpio 18′
- Partial SOLAR Eclipse October 25, 2022, at 6:48:30 at 2° Scorpio 00′
- Total LUNAR Eclipse November 8, 2022, at 6:01:57 at 16° Taurus 01′
- Penumbral LUNAR Eclipse May 5, 2023, at 13:33:50 at 14° Scorpio 58′
- Partial LUNAR Eclipse October 28, 2023, at 16:23:49 at 5° Taurus 09′
Where this Lunar Eclipse occurs in your Chart:
If this Lunar eclipse forms a conjunction (aligns with) a planet in your chart, you may feel its intensity more than others. If the Lunar Eclipse is conjunct your Sun, for example, it can act as a charge of energy. This time, this would happen to people born from approximately **October 24 to November 1** of any year. The desire –or necessity– to turn over a new leaf is strong. A significant other or the public can play a prominent role in the events of your life now.
In major aspect to the Moon, a Lunar Eclipse can trigger significant changes in your living situation and personal life, including personal relationships. Circumstances that significantly change your daily routine and domestic world can arise.
Possible issues for the eclipse’s transit to natal houses: With a Lunar Eclipse in the first house, it may be time to change your image or redefine your personality in some manner. Finding a balance between autonomy and dependence is what this eclipse is about for you. Your emotions are on your sleeve right now. It is a good time to put your needs first, but doing so with respect for others will take you further. Whether you can succeed as a leader is “tested” right now. There may be some drama involving a significant other.
With a Lunar Eclipse in the second house, you may get a cosmic push to make necessary financial changes in your life. Sharing issues come into focus, as do issues of power–what’s yours and what’s mine. Your comfort zones matter, and now is the time to take care of your own needs without eclipsing the needs of others. A financial settlement, the beginning or end of a particular debt, and other such scenarios can be part of the picture now.
With a Lunar Eclipse in the third house, there may be some sort of drama surrounding communication, modes of transportation, schooling, mobility, neighbors, or siblings. Daily routines can change dramatically. There may be a major event in the life of a sibling. There could be a publishing offer, or you might be in a position to promote yourself. Travel or education plans may come to fruition. You might gain an entirely different perspective on a matter.
With a Lunar Eclipse in the fourth house, domestic conditions are illuminated. House repairs, family dramas, and other such issues need serious attention. The demands of your personal life are now paramount. Striking a balance between energy you spend on work and energy you put into domestic matters is essential now. Balanced attention to your public and personal lives is what you need to focus on. It’s time to prioritize. A major career project can come to fruition or completion.
With a Lunar Eclipse in the fifth house, a romantic affair may be tested. If love is true, there’s nothing to fear. The demands of your larger goals in life may have been eclipsing your pleasure-seeking activities. Also possible, your children may be going through their own changes and “stages” and need more attention now, or a child could be experiencing a major new beginning. Some might have a child. A new creative project might begin now.
With a Lunar Eclipse in the sixth, there could be changes necessary in your job or health routines. You can use this surge of emotional energy to make positive changes to your routines. Do something to improve your work conditions if they are annoying you. Get going on your exercise or nutrition program that you know you must do to feel more balanced. A work project or a job itself can begin or end now. A physical or mental health issue might come to light.
With a Lunar Eclipse in the seventh house, partnerships may be tested, but there is nothing to fear if the relationship is strong. The seventh house represents an important one-to-one relationship–a marriage partner, significant other, business partner, or adversary. It’s time to strike a balance between your own needs and those of another. It’s time to compromise and negotiate. You might suddenly find yourself with more social opportunities, or you might acquire many new clients.
With a Lunar Eclipse in the eighth house, some drama with regards to a spouse’s income, or your taxes, debts, and investments, may occur on a mundane level. It may be time to settle some of your debts, financial or otherwise. What makes you feel comfortable and secure must be balanced with attention to other people’s needs and comfort levels. There can be new money coming into your life.
With a Lunar Eclipse in the ninth house, your personal beliefs may be tested. Your hunger for adventure or learning may come into focus. All of the attention you’ve been giving to mundane affairs can have you wondering when you will have some fun. You want to take a leap of faith now. There may be an important beginning or culmination in education. If you are in business, a writer, or the like, you might reach a wider audience.
With a Lunar Eclipse in the tenth house, you may need to review and change your career goals. Career matters come to a head, but as the seventh house from the fourth, so might a personal, domestic, family, or house and home matter. You’re called to perform, possibly on a moment’s notice, and it’s best to keep your cool and do whatever you can to show your competence.
With a Lunar Eclipse in the eleventh house, friendships may be tested, or your relationship with groups or organizations. You’re looking for validation from friends and group activities now. A major event can involve a child or a romantic partner, or a culmination of a creative project can occur at this time.
With a Lunar Eclipse in the twelfth house, you may recognize an overwhelming need for rest and spiritual renewal. You’ve been busy with all sorts of everyday activities and deeply involved in your work and routines. It’s time to balance your life with some downtime–otherwise, you simply don’t feel whole. There can be exposure of a private or even clandestine matter in some cases. Secrets can emerge at this time, or there can be a desire to do something private, secret, or risky. A work project can come to fruition.

***A Solar Eclipse occurs in the sign of Libra on October 14th, 2023.***
About the total Solar Eclipse in Aries on October 14th, 2023
A total Solar Eclipse occurs on October 14th, 2023, at 1:55 PM EDT at 21 degrees and 8 minutes of the sign of Libra. Because its effects can be felt up to six months after the actual date of the eclipse, it has more power to affect our personal lives than a “regular” New Moon.
Long-term changes are in the works! In the Venus-ruled sign of Libra, there is now a powerful focus on matters related to interdependence, partnerships, negotiations, compromise, agreements, interpersonal skills, one-to-one relationships, consideration, balance, and diplomacy. This eclipse might challenge these life departments and present opportunities for new beginnings.
Eclipse #2 in an Aries-Libra set
This Solar Eclipse/New Moon occurs in the sign of balance-focused Libra. It’s the second eclipse to fall along the Aries-Libra axis in a set that will continue until 2025. This eclipse can be considered the second of several cosmic nudges toward creating a better balance between “me and us.” The focus of this set is on new beginnings related to our relationships with others and ourselves.
Eclipses have the power to set up themes for the coming six months. We’ll address matters related to in/dependence, give and take, and balance in the months following this eclipse. We may need- or desire- to start fresh in these areas. Realizations, circumstances, or strong compulsions now can propel us forward, prompting a new mission.
This eclipse is the second in an Aries-Libra set. The first eclipse in this sign set occurred on April 20th, 2023 in the last degree of Aries. That April eclipse set up themes that now get a boost with this October eclipse. However, this time around, we’re seeing the other side of the situation, as Aries and Libra are opposite signs.
The Aries-Libra Eclipse Set
This Solar Eclipse is part of a set of eclipses falling along the Aries/Libra sign axis from April 2023 to March 2025:
- Annular Total SOLAR Eclipse 2023 April 20 0:12:19 at 29 Aries 50
- Annular SOLAR Eclipse 2023 October 14 13:54:56 at 21 Libra 08
- Penumbral LUNAR Eclipse 2024 March 25 3:00:05 at 5 Libra 07
- Total SOLAR Eclipse 2024 April 8 14:20:37 at 19 Aries 24
- Annular SOLAR Eclipse 2024 October 2 14:49:02 at 10 Libra 04
- Partial SOLAR Eclipse 2025 March 29 at 9 Aries 00
This set of eclipses stirs the need to balance our lives between meeting our personal needs and attending to the needs of a significant other, between independence and autonomy, and between dependence and companionability.
Because this solar eclipse occurs in the relationship-oriented sign of Libra, one-to-one relationships will be a greater focus, including romantic partnerships and marriages, business partnerships, very close friendships, and even adversaries.
Occurring in Libra, this Solar Eclipse calls us to:
- build our negotiating skills without compromising our principles or needs, and without resorting to appeasement;
- work on our tact and diplomacy by considering others’ feelings, viewpoint, and needs;
- slip into our partners’ shoes and illuminate ourselves;
- recognize and treat our partners as teammates rather than adversaries;
- make an effort to appreciate and understand our partnerships, and if we are unattached, make resolutions regarding our possible partnership needs or goals;
- find ways to bring balance, greater harmony, and grace into our environment;
- discover our personal power through a better balance with others;
This phase of the Moon occurs at 21 degrees and 8 minutes of Libra.
A similar Solar Eclipse (at approximately the same degree of Libra) occurred on October 14th, 2004. Before that, it was October 12th, 1996, and before that, October 12th, 1977.
An eclipse set along the Aries-Libra axis most recently occurred from 2013-2016. Before that, it was from 2004-2006.
It can be useful to think back to these periods of our lives and consider relevant themes–this time around, we might encounter similar lessons or further developments along the same lines.
For example, if we were struggling with a marriage or relationship in 2004-2006, and we then saw a period of a new bond in 2013-2016, we might encounter more or further drama about our sense of independence or significant others during this 2023-2025 period.
This eclipse can highlight and challenge our issues surrounding bonding, pairing up, dependence, and balance. We might take steps towards self-mastery and self-empowerment by tackling things that undermine us.
Circumstances nudge or encourage us to see where we haven’t been true to our relationships. Ultimately, we position ourselves to understand that changes or endings are necessary for our own growth, and that we can handle these things.
The Solar Eclipse Chart
The New Moon Eclipse aligns with Mercury, encouraging mindfulness, reason, and communication. Although an eclipse initially gives us tunnel vision such that we don’t see some areas of our lives clearly, we’re ultimately seeking facts and clearer results. We might aspire to develop more objectivity.
Its quincunx to Uranus in Taurus suggests money matters could take a hit in our decision-making or choices, leaving us feeling short-changed. However, with Venus, Libra’s ruler, separating from an opposition to Saturn and applying to a trine to Jupiter, we’re likely to feel far more hopeful that we’re leaving a restrictive situation behind us and heading toward better circumstances.
The wide but present square from Pluto suggests some frustrated energy and perhaps resentment or a bit of paranoia. The need to rid ourselves of false images is once again a powerful theme (it was also present in the Aries Solar Eclipse chart).
This New Moon eclipse brings fresh and creative energy into our lives, and more specifically, into our relationships. This is a cycle in which balancing our close personal relationships becomes an urgent desire. Negotiations may be especially effective, as we are inclined to assert our needs in ways that don’t offend others. A Mars-Saturn trine can help us see the value of pacing ourselves and keeping our feet on the ground.
This is a good time for focusing on some of the constructive traits of the sign of the Balance–gracious, compromising, balanced, fair-minded –and consider how to positively incorporate these qualities into our lives.
An eclipse occurs close to the nodal axis, and this eclipse is conjunct South Node in Libra. With the North Node in Aries and the South Node in Libra, we receive the message that two reasonably independent people who each possess a strong sense of individual identity are more likely to make a relationship work. The old adage that you must love yourself before you can love someone else fits here. Over-identifying with a partnership, or resorting to appeasing a partner, are things that can undermine a relationship.
Some of Libra’s “lessons” involve learning to make peace with those around us and balance/harmony in our environments, establishing a sense of order and balance in our lives; learning to consider others’ feelings and needs without resorting to appeasement, and recognizing the value of partnerships. This is an ideal time to work on these skills.
Libra has an innate ability for –and great love of– synthesizing opposites. Peace and harmony are the goal, but there’s a fine balancing act involved along the way that requires some commitment and effort.
The above chart is excellent for seeing the fundamental influences and chart pattern of this New Moon. The chart below adds more details with additional points. Click to enlarge:
It’s a powerful time to re-evaluate our relationships and relationship goals. With this potent Libra energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives.
Solar Eclipse in Libra Themes
This eclipse can work on psychological levels instead (or in addition). It’s an excellent time to concentrate on what we can do to increase our ability to harmonize, connect, and relate in healthy ways with others. While we’ve been nurturing a healthy relationship with ourselves regarding our balance between relying on others and ourselves since the Aries eclipse in April–and it’s been a powerful exercise–we’re now recognizing where we’ve been attached to situations or relating patterns that kept us from growing our relationships in fulfilling, balanced ways.
Occurring in Libra, this eclipse is about connecting with our interpersonal goals. Fresh and potent energy is with us for taking charge of our lives.
We might recognize ways that we’ve been too focused on our needs, desires, and plans to the detriment of our partnerships, for example. There is much focus on getting ourselves together, being accountable, and working on ourselves, and it’s important, but a me-first attitude isn’t completely fulfilling. Doing things for others, accommodating them, and arriving at compromises can be immensely rewarding.
A Libra Solar Eclipse positions us to do something we’ve normally done for ourselves or on our own with or for a significant other. It can be a valuable lesson that while relying on ourselves and loving ourselves is fundamental, sharing and balancing our agendas with others is also powerful.
We might evaluate where we have been complicating our lives and compromising ourselves by an overdone, unhealthy focus on our desires. When we have only ourselves to care for, our focus can skew dramatically. Think solitary confinement on some level–if our focus is too intense on ourselves, our perspective is unhealthy and imbalanced.
In fact, finding a good balance between independence and interaction improves both our relationships with others and our relationships with ourselves.
Sometimes eclipses bring about events that force us into this position of re-evaluation. For example, on a mundane level, relocation or job changes can shuffle around our duties and priorities, and we need to become accustomed to new routines. Connecting with our needs and desires can change what we do for ourselves and what we do with others, impacting our connections. Dealing with breakups or brand new partnerships can enforce changes.
During this eclipse set from 2023 to 2025, we’ll likely see more people who’ve felt dependent on a relationship speak up and out, and stand on their own. Conversely, those who have prioritized only their needs and ignored their partner’s will realize it’s not sustainable. There can be’ more major breakups and major partnerings. Working on the self and on marriages or key partnerships is a a strong focus and areas of intense renovation and change.
At a solar eclipse, the Moon blocks the Sun’s rays so that it “eclipses” the Sun. Symbolically, the energies associated with the Moon eclipse those of the Sun, so that feelings and emotions dominate over the ego and the will. Everyone will tend to take things personally, but particularly those born under the signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn, and those whose planets are found in approximately 21 degrees of these signs.
It can be a time of beginnings and/or endings, and the particular planets involved as well as the house where the eclipse occurs in your chart will tell more of the story.
Our Mission:
This eclipse reminds us that we should embrace growth and improvement. One of Libra’s “lessons” is about bringing more order and balance to our lives. One way of doing so involves more attention and consideration of what those around us need. Sometimes, when we crave more peace and harmony, we resort to appeasing others rather than truly connecting with their viewpoints and listening to what they need. This gets us into a dull, lifeless pattern where we learn nothing of great value. It helps to tell someone you’re sorry, but if it’s an empty platitude designed only to keep the peace and move on, the disharmonious pattern will soon repeat.
With this potent Libra energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives that will benefit us well beyond this Moon cycle. For some of us, circumstances are such that we need to pay more attention to these matters.
Flaws in an important system in our lives reveal themselves around the time of the eclipse, prompting us to redo or start fresh. Something ends for something else to start anew. We may be called to give up something in order to move forward into a new chapter in our lives. Although the “new” may be unrecognizable, it is crucial to allow the necessary surrender to the unknown.
Still, it’s best not to jump to conclusions around the time of an eclipse. One area of our life magnifies, and while it’s a helpful perspective, we’re ignoring something in the process.
Significant developments in the personal areas ruled by Libra in our charts will likely occur over the forthcoming months.
We may now need to take steps toward better managing and handling our relationships. In the process, we must consider whether we are contributing our share to our relationships. It’s possible that we now need to pay more attention to a partner. It may be temporary, but it’s a time to develop and hone our negotiation skills.
We must always consider that a healthy amount of compromise is best, and even vital, in our partnerships. This Libra eclipse is not a call to be selfless. It’s about balancing our needs for independence and compromise, but with special attention to the relationship side of the equation. Ideally, in the past six months, we’ve been working on self-assertion and independence, and now, we’re putting these skills in practice while attending to our relationship skills.
We should always keep in mind the sign polarity involved with an eclipse–ultimately, we’re striving for balance. A Solar Eclipse in one sign is about working on the traits of that sign keeping in mind the greater goal of integration and balance. It’s not about overdoing the sign’s characteristics and themes.
So, with Libra, we find ways to share, compromise, negotiate, consider the opposite point of view, and connect with our need for one-to-one relationships.
This eclipse can illuminate our vulnerabilities and–possibly–challenge them. What happens now gets us to tackle things that undermine us and take away our courage.

Solar Eclipse
This eclipse, specifically in Libra, is about connecting with our need to relate, harmonize, and balance. It’s a time for investing in relationships. We’re recognizing the rewards of sharing, being fair to others, making correlations, making peace, creating harmonious conditions, and establishing links and bonds.
There is a focus on starting fresh and whether we need to clear the way for new projects and connections or whether we might recommit to things we already have in place.
Not a Libra? This eclipse still affects you. In fact, everyone has Libra somewhere in their chart, and these traits are strong in the corresponding areas of life. See the New Moon in Houses below for more information.
Challenges:
We are challenged to accept that changing, evolving, and transforming can be good for us, even if it means stepping a little outside of our comfort zone.
Significant developments in the personal areas ruled by Libra in our charts are likely to occur over the course of the next 3-6 months.
Since this is a Solar Eclipse, we may feel wiped out, ignored, or overruled before we are motivated to make a big change or new beginning. In the days surrounding the eclipse, it’s best to take in, observe, and let our intuition work for us. It’s not the time to push.
Eclipses can seem to drain us before we begin fresh, slowly but steadily rebuilding our energy and motivation. This process is useful, however, as we’re now “refueling” with more authentic, more appropriate, and more relevant energy. We don’t need inauthentic goals slowing us down!
Not everyone will feel the effect of the eclipse with the same intensity. Those whose personal planets are activated by the degree of the eclipse will feel its effects more strongly on a personal level.
For example, if your birthday occurs on or in the few days surrounding October 14th, it’s a powerful time for new beginnings.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 21 degrees and 8 minutes of Libra, affecting people born with personal planets and points at 16 to 26 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.
Looking Back (and Forward):
The last time eclipses fell along the Aries-Libra sign axis was 2013-2016 but, unusually, a Solar Eclipse never happened in Aries or Libra during that set (they were Lunar Eclipses in the two signs).
A similar Solar Eclipse (at approximately the same degree of Libra) occurred on October 14th, 2004. Before that, the dates were October 12th, 1996, and October 12th, 1977.
The last series of eclipses along the Aries-Libra axis occurred from October 2013 to March 2016, April 2004 to March 2006, April 1995 to March 1997, April 1986 to October 1987, and October 1976 to October 1978.
There is certainly a difference between eclipse sets where the North Node is closer to Aries, when we’re striving toward incorporating more Aries energies and themes into our lives, and sets occurring when the North Node is closer to Libra, when we strive toward Libra energies.
Since the North Node entered Aries in July 2023, we’ve been striving toward developing our Aries energies. This Solar Eclipse in Libra gives us perspective and urges us to create balance–it encourages us to get our Libra areas in order!
It’s useful to know that eclipses occur along a sign axis in sets every nine years.
Aries-Libra Eclipse sets (upcoming, current, and some in recent history):
- October 2032 to September 2034
- April 2023 to March 2025
- October 2013 to March 2016
- April 2004 to March 2006
- April 1995 to March 1997

General: The Meaning of the New Moon in the Houses
The following interpretations come from the Day Watch report. See our interpretations of the New Moon in houses here.
New Moon in 1st House This New Moon marks a time of personal beginnings, when you find yourself shot into the limelight and all eyes turn toward you to see what you’re going to do next. This may be somewhat startling, as it’s rather different than what last month brought, and you will need to step up and display your self-confidence in a way that wasn’t called on before. In a volatile situation, you will need to have your wits about you as you will have a particularly high profile.
The trick is to handle it with grace and not let it go to your head, as this too shall pass and you’ll want to look back on a performance that maximized the opportunities dropped into your lap.
New Moon in 2nd House For a day or so you may be under pressure to underwrite new projects or finance situations that require sinking money into them. It may seem quite urgent, but it’s a time when everything seems a bit more intense, so you may do well to stand back and take a second look before jumping in with both feet.
Wise investments made at this time can bring good returns in the next couple of weeks, but ill-conceived spending could drain you in the same time period. Know you’re right, then go ahead one way or the other, as the one option you probably won’t have is sitting on the fence or putting it all off until later. Strike when the iron is hot or pass the opportunity on to another.
New Moon in 3rd House A flurry of activity for several days can have the phone ringing off the hook as new ideas and propositions that require either your opinion or your decision come your way. Your challenge will be sorting the wheat from the chaff on the fly, and sorting out the confusion that always abounds at New Moon, especially this one.
The day is won by multiple, smaller choices made wisely, rather than hanging on a single issue, so don’t obsess but decide quickly and move right along to the next. This is a great time for currying new acquaintances as the air of intensity makes for strong personal connections and breaks through the barriers of unfamiliarity.
New Moon in 4th House This may mark a day or so of raised tensions at home as biological tides run high and elbow room seems harder to come by. However, used creatively, this can lead to new ways of organizing and arranging your personal space so it doesn’t overlap that of others. It’s a good time to start new home-related projects as a way to utilize the extra energy in a constructive manner.
Letting out your deeper expressions of feeling to another can make things especially intimate right now, but make sure you express yourself clearly and are not misunderstood. The perfect time to feel “at home” with someone, either literally or figuratively. The only thing you’ll not want to be is idle—the vibes are too intense to just sit on your hands.
New Moon in 5th House Find a party to go to, give one, or just party down where you stand—the astral weather is perfect for it. In fact, anything you do for enjoyment will seem twice as good right now. Play with your children, or just break out the inner child, as you can more easily part with self-consciousness and spontaneity breaks out, well, spontaneously!
If you call on the muse for a creative project, she will definitely show up (muses love parties, and children), and you’ll find that your juices flow faster and easier than usual. There can be a fine line between joyous adventure and risky behavior, however, so try to stay on the safe side of the line. A good time to engage, but not be, a designated driver both literally and figuratively, so that you can be safely irresponsible for a while.
New Moon in 6th House A good time to take your blood pressure—if it’s not elevated now, you’re in really good shape. It can be easy to get worried about health matters now, but moderation is the right response. The temptation to throw yourself into a new regimen may run high, but choose your new path well before you embark or it will be a flash in the pan.
The same goes for cleaning house in the workplace and starting off on a fresh footing. Make sure you’re not demanding too much of yourself in the long run—you will not always have this much drive, and you don’t want to peter out because you can’t keep up with yourself. A good program is determined by whether you can keep it going on an off day.
New Moon in 7th House: This is a particularly ripe couple of days for finding a new partner or turning over a new leaf with an old partner. You may find a flood of emotional intensity coming your way and how you utilize it could largely shape the direction of the relationship. That means be particularly understanding and realize that though feelings may be overstated at this time and emotions run hot, the message underneath is sincere and needs to be taken seriously.
Breakthroughs can occur now that you both might have kept a lid on otherwise, and you’ll be glad you achieved the new closeness, even though you may not be able to keep it going at that level of intensity all month.
New Moon in 8th House You may find turning over a new leaf this month entails tossing out the old and ringing in the new, but you should take a second look before doing that. What you may find much more satisfactory is to simply rework and refurbish what is already there.
Sometimes a new paint job makes everything new again, so you don’t have to start over from scratch. They don’t make things like they used to, so preserve what you can. It’s also a good time to initiate that new credit card, but avoid impulse buying, as it’s easy to go overboard right about now. Ditto for mortgage or other loans — a good starting time, but just take what you need and no more.
New Moon in 9th House It’s a great time for planning, cooking up new schemes, or rearranging the way you look at things. Patterns you establish now do not need detailed follow-up until later, so you can stick to generalities until you’ve got it all properly roughed-out. Put on the finishing touches later. New publishing efforts, or any project that generally disseminates what you have to say, are well begun now, and you may find the pressure is on to produce.
Avoid hasty commitments, however, as you don’t want to be held to something ill-considered or not fully thought out. Well begun is half done, so be thoughtful, deliberate, and measured in your efforts, even though tempted or even encouraged not to be.
New Moon in 10th House New developments in career matters may have you quite wound up for a couple of days and the pressure to produce can be intense. Too many things happening at once make it hard to keep track of things, but you can’t afford to leave anything out.
It is as important to listen at this time as to act. What people are saying to you and about you very much reflects your personal and professional status and you will want to make sure that you are being represented honestly. If you give your résumé a second look, you’ll find there are new things to say about yourself that need to be included. Taking a fresh stance can put you into new places, move you up a notch.
New Moon in 11th House Feelings run high among close friends and an intensity is available right now that can renew the love and passion that first fueled your relationships. It can be worth risking upset to get at what you are really feeling and share it with those that matter the most.
Because there’s a wild atmosphere surrounding it all, you can say things you might have hesitated to bring up and wear your heart on your sleeve without worrying about the outcome. The same ability to burst out of your shell will also aid in getting yourself into new company you might have thought didn’t care about you before. An approach of disarming honesty can make you welcome in unexpected places and bring you valuable allies.
New Moon in the 12th House Eruptions of the unconscious could bring both troubles and personal revelations to the surface right now, so you may want to be careful not to betray secrets or let the cat out of the bag prematurely. Don’t say the first thing that comes to mind, or you may give away more than you intend to.
New deals are being struck behind the scenes with a strong sense of urgency, but they are not necessarily justified, so watch that you don’t climb aboard the wrong bandwagon right now. Wait until things come out into the open to make decisions, take sides, even though there appears to be advantage in secrecy. Open covenants, openly arrived at, are the better part of honor.
General: The Meaning of the Full Moon in the Houses
The following interpretations come from the Day Watch report. See our interpretations of the Full Moon in the houses here.
Full Moon in 1st House For a day or so you may find things get fairly wacky in your surroundings, and one of the causes may be you. The time is right (and the pressure is on) to bring critical projects to a conclusion, put on finishing touches, and show the world just what you’re all about.
The emphasis is not so much on what you’ve done, but rather who you are, and it’s the right time to let your personality out of the box and shine, shine, shine. The whole set of circumstances may have you a little giddy, but that’s part of the surrounding picture at Full Moon, and this is your time to take a ride on that energy and put your personal mark on what comes of it.
Full Moon in 2nd House Under a little more intensity than usual, it’s time to wrap things up financially, collect on projects that have come to fruition, and generally tie up loose ends. That should mean ending extra spending for a time, as it will be less necessary, but that’s hard to do on a Full Moon, when things are a little chaotic and judgment isn’t always on the mark.
Still, put your focus on that last payment, that final accessory, as the appropriate approach is to round out what you have done, put on the final touches, and then showcase it. It’s a time to show off what you’ve got and make the most of it, not keep piling it on. You should concentrate on reaping its rewards.
Full Moon in 3rd House Don’t everybody talk at once! That’s what you’re likely to be saying as the volume level around you peaks and everybody is trying to get a message through, including yourself. Full Moon is like that in general, but this time it can be especially wordy as you try to finish up a lot of correspondence and tie up loose ends as the links you have established begin to really amount to something. That means crowding a lot of important last-minute things into the space of a few days, so don’t over schedule yourself in advance.
Leave plenty of room open for last-minute situations that come rushing in and demand equal attention. Concentrate on matters that require conclusion and closure right now; save your new ideas for later when they can get proper attention.
Full Moon in 4th House You may find you could use a little more space at home as everyone there, including yourself, is taking up a lot more psychic space than usual right now. That can be claustrophobic and you can get on each other’s nerves—or you can use it as the opportunity to connect more by opening that personal space and letting people in. Or, you can just get out of the house and take a break from it all. Whatever you choose, you will find yourself with matters coming to a head and you’ll be making conclusions about just how well your internal game plan is working out.
Literally and figuratively, good fences make good neighbors, but only when located strategically. Time to finish yours, and test it.
Full Moon in 5th House Spontaneity is the watchword right now, and it’s time to kick back and have some fun, especially with close friends and children. If you’re at a party and go just a little bit over the top, you will likely be in good company, as this is a general time of celebration for all. Passion and intensity, on any topic you choose, can run rampant and enthusiasm overflows.
If you’re trying to get business done, you’ll be swimming against the tide, so if you have the option, just go with the flow. Instead, if you’re working on a creative project, make sure you get the product preserved for posterity—on paper, on film, on tape, on CD. If you’re just going to be pleasantly out to lunch, don’t bother, just enjoy.
Full Moon in 6th House If you aren’t finally achieving something from your diet or exercise regimen, ask yourself why not. This is the time you should be really getting things together and it should be starting to pay off.
However, avoid excess and going over the top right now, as you may feel you can do more — and maybe eat more—than you really should. At work, you may feel a little overbooked as tasks multiply and time is short to complete them. Once you’ve put on the finishing touches, you’ll be able to stand back and take pride in your accomplishments. A good time for an office party, if you can concoct a good excuse for one. In general right now, celebrate finished tasks.
Full Moon in 7th House This is a wonderful time to let your partner shine and just lay back and appreciate it all. That can mean enjoying the fruits of your mutual labors wrought by the relationship, or it can mean finally fully connecting with someone you’ve been developing something special with for a while.
In either case, the rewards of connecting closely will take center stage, and you can lean on the familiarity you already have to support what comes next. This can apply equally well in business as in romance, as long as you’re dealing with an equal on equal ground. The essence is that you bring things to full bloom right now, so you can begin harvesting what you have sown.
Full Moon in 8th House If you’ve been chasing down that extra credit line, looking for a better deal on a mortgage or equity loan, this is a likely time to pull it all together, as long as you’ve got all your ducks in a row. That may mean scrambling for some last minute details or information to make it under a deadline, but there’s real potential here.
It’s also good psychic weather for putting the finishing touches on restoration projects, picking up that antique you’ve been chasing down, and clearing out the cobwebs that may have been settling on lesser-used items. You’ll have the courage to toss out those useless things you’ve been hoarding, and the burst of freedom will do you good. The theme: finish clearing the decks for action.
Full Moon in 9th House Think big, stretch the imagination, push the envelope of your beliefs and feelings—this Full Moon has the potential to be an eye-opener. The energy is in the air to expand your window on the world, especially where it has been an ongoing operation already in the works. The heady feeling of suddenly having put it all together can have you wondering now what to do with it all, but that will take care of itself down the line.
Look for good news on the legal front, as things wrap themselves up and come to a conclusion, but don’t count your chickens yet, as it’s easy to overestimate right now. Main issues can get resolved now, as all parties are willing to go an extra mile to agree in principle, if not on the details.
Full Moon in 10th House This may be the perfect time to button down career matters that have been under development for a while. Although the pace may be accelerated and last-minute additions come crowding in, you can have a fuller, rosier picture of just where you stand in your profession and what people think of you. Choose this spot for releasing a shotgun blast of self-promotion, whatever it is you do, as public relations has extra carrying power from this Full Moon.
The buzz about you comes in a rising crescendo that peaks now, so start figuring out ways to take it to the bank. Although you may be tempted to squirrel yourself away at home, take time out during these few days to wave your own flag.
Full Moon in 11th House Relaxation, comfort with your surroundings, and the warmth and glow of friendship can be the watchwords of this Full Moon, if you’re willing to disconnect from the daily grind and tap into your personal happy side for a while. Fine food, pleasant company, tales of shared lives and mutual adventures bring a fullness that makes you realize that the good life is about feelings, not money; friendship, not possessions.
Satisfaction comes from just letting things happen for a moment and inviting in the blessings that surround you, despite the rigors of existence. If you want a peak experience, it’s in the wings right now, roll it out. Take the time to put the seal on relationships that elevate and support you.
Full Moon in 12th House Although this Full Moon may at times seem to place you between dream and hallucination, it emphasizes the ability to perceive and commune with your inner self in ways you might have been cut off from it. The intensity in the air breaks internal barriers and allows you to heal wounds, now that they have come to light.
In more mundane affairs, things being cooked up behind the scenes come to fruition, although you may have to take extra precautions that they don’t come into the light, unless you are fully ready to go public with them. Avoid confrontations right now, which will put you at a disadvantage, use more subtle means to gain your ends when emotions run high.
